St Anton

Someone once said to me: “Once you’ve skied in Austria, you’ll wonder why you ever went anywhere else.” They were right.

St Anton is one of Austria’s premier resorts and along with St Christoph, Stuben, Zurs and Lech it forms part of the massive Arlberg ski area, all covered on one lift pass along with the smaller resort of Sonnenkopf – not often mentioned, but a haven for lovers of untouched powder and skiing amongst the trees. The skiing is varied, offering everything from wide, gentle blues to un-pisted but marked ski routes that will challenge the most intrepid skiers. And for those wanting to venture further afield… the ski bus stops are tactically placed so you can enjoy the finest off-piste, without a long walk out!

The villages are picturesque, the scenery stunning and on a practical level, it works: the uphill transport is ultra-modern and the round-resort transport is similarly efficient; the mountain restaurants are comfortable and beautifully appointed with plenty of space to spread out and relax; the prices are sensible and the people friendly and helpful.

St Anton has a wide variety of accommodation to suit all pockets and tastes from traditional, family run guest houses to apartments to 5-star hotels. Standards are extremely high, with even the most modest being spacious, well-equipped and meticulously presented. Above all, you’ll find that when they say ‘herlich willkommen’ (warm welcome), they genuinely mean it.
